Felix the Gambler

Ever since he first realized his potential to be a magician, Felix has been obsessed with fate and chance. Through subtle manipulations, he was able to bend the odds in his favor throughout his life. Gambling helped to fund an easy life, especially when a quick spell would let him influence the next roll of the dice or the shuffle of the deck. Eventually though, fate has a way of catching up to you and a bet against the gods is always a bad bet.

Knowing that the debts he’s accumulated will come due, Felix has set out on a desperate quest to the frozen city of Felstad in hopes of recovering some lost spell that will give him another chance to tip the balance of fate in his favor.

Spells

Felix’s specialty is manipulating chance. Before beginning a trek into the frozen city, he will cast Awareness to gain insight into what lies ahead. In battle, he enjoys casting Fickle Finger on a couple of his soldiers in order to give them the chance of an extra action and then using Serendipity to tilt the odds of the extra action in his favor. When he wants to take a more direct approach, he can use Curse to hinder enemies and Grenade to attack. He knows Teleport and True Sight which are both useful utilities when the right situation arises. Finally, after an expedition, casting True Gold means that his warband is more likely to have recovered valuable treasure.

  • Awareness – Soothsayer 14
  • Curse – Witch 10
  • Fickle Finger – Fatecaster 12
  • Grenade – Enchanter 14
  • Serendipity – Fatecaster 8
  • Teleport – Illusionist 14
  • True Gold – Fatecaster 10
  • True Sight – Soothsayer 12

Apprentice

Felix recruited his apprentice Mona from a traveling circus after noticing the young woman’s affinity for the magical arts. Since then, he has trained her in the art of fatecasting. While she is not yet as capable as Felix, she is able to make good use of Serendipity to aid the warband and Curse to hinder their enemies.

Soldiers

Felix prefers a mobile warband that is able to move quickly to collect valuable loot and outmaneuver their enemies. His specialists are a treasure hunter and a ranger. An apothecary helps to keep Felix healthy, and then five thieves fill out the rest of the crew.

  • Apothecary
  • Ranger
  • Thief × 5
  • Treasure Hunter

Transcendence

When Felix casts Transcendence, he erases his debt to the gods of fate.

Wednesday Wizards is a series of posts that I’m planning to write for the next few months. Each entry will present a wizard for Frostgrave Second Edition with background, spell selection, soldiers, and their goal in exploring the city. These wizards and warbands could be used as-is to start a new campaign or serve as inspiration as you build your own wizard.
