Recent Projects

While I didn’t write as many posts as I’d like last month due to various non-gaming activities (work and a visit from my parents), that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on gaming projects. I’ve recently started writing two columns for other web sites – one on a different game each month and the other presenting an adaptation of the Dragon Age RPG rules. In addition, I’ve been spending time working on updates to Sword of Terra, my space ship combat game. Those aren’t ready to share yet, but I’m aiming to have an updated version of the rules playable by the end of the year. Hopefully this month I’ll have a bit more free time and be able to post here more regularly as well.

Game-of-the-Month Club

While my regular gaming time has gone to D&D for years, I’ve purchased a lot of other role-playing games, especially in the past couple years. Unfortunately, I haven’t been very good about finding time to play most of those games. To remedy that situation, I decided to run a session or two of a different game each month. Around the same time I was coming up with that idea, Thadeous from This is my Game asked me if I’d be interested in writing a monthly column for his site. I happily agreed and started writing the column in September. My goal isn’t really to write reviews of the games, but to instead take a look at what ideas from a game work well and how those ideas could be used in other role-playing games. You can read the column here: (EDIT: no longer online)

AGE of Terror

WarriorEarlier this year, I started thinking about running a game set in the world of the Diablo computer games using the Dragon Age RPG. When my D&D campaign finished its heroic tier story arc, I offered the idea to my gaming group as one of several options for what to play next, but they voted unanimously to continue the D&D campaign. The idea kept bouncing around in my head though, so I started working on an outline for adapting the AGE system to the setting. Once I started with that, I pitched the idea to Dragon Age Oracle since it seemed like a natural fit. Daniel, who runs the site, liked the idea and my first post in the series went up last week. That first post offers backgrounds for the Warrior and Rogue from the first Diablo game, and the next one that I’m working on will cover the Sorcerer.

EDIT 25 May 2020: Removed some dead links to This is My Game and Dragon Age Oracle.
